Anti-Drug Trafficking Mission in Downtown with Federal Assistance Results in Arrests

November 16, 2022 15:38

On November 15th and 16th, Federal Agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), as well as local partners from Multnomah County Sherriff Special Investigations Unit and Community Supervision assisted the Central Bike Squad, Central Precinct Neighborhood Response Team (NRT), and the Portland Police Bureau’s Narcotics and Organized Crime (NOC) unites with a two day mission targeting drug trafficking in the Downtown Portland core. There has been a recent uptick in violence downtown that can be linked to drugs and the sale of drugs within Downtown Portland. The involvement of federal law enforcement allows these cases to be prosecuted at the federal level with the assistance of the United States Attorney’s Office.

With the help of over a dozen undercover Federal Agents, PPB Officers were able to stop and arrest numerous suspects for distribution of a controlled substance (DCS). The PPB NOC unit has recently had two police K9’s become certified in the detection of fentanyl. Over the course of two days, fourteen individuals were arrested for charges ranging from DCS-Fentanyl, DCS Meth to outstanding arrest warrants out of multiple jurisdictions.

These missions highlight not only the impact that drugs have on our community but also how important cooperation is between law enforcement agencies as we work towards a safer Portland.
