Nvidia to Continue Invite System for Direct-to-Consumer GPU Sales

Nvidia will continue inviting select consumers to buy GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards directly from the company through a new pilot system.

The GPU maker began trialing the invite system a month ago when it invited a lucky group of customers to buy the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition directly from Nvidia. Selected customers were sent an email and then offered a special link to purchase the graphics card from Best Buy, bypassing the need to wait for retailers to restock.

On Wednesday, Nvidia announced it will offer the same “Verified Priority Access” program for the Founders Edition RTX 4080, which launched today and quickly sold out at Best Buy.

“Over the last few weeks, we have been delighted to see GeForce gamers and creative app users share their excitement of getting a GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition graphics card through the Verified Priority Access trial program,” Nvidia said.

The company says it’s still testing the Verified Priority Access program. But even so, Nvidia has decided to expand it to include GeForce RTX 4000 models from its third-party partners.

“We are working with our participating retail partners and add-in-card partners to include more GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 models in the Verified Priority Access trial, in addition to Nvidia limited Founders Edition design,” the company wrote.

The other important news is that users can now request an invite through Nvidia’s public sign-up page(Opens in a new window), which asks you to log in with an Nvidia account. “There may be many more sign-ups than cards available in this trial, so enrolling does not guarantee getting selected for an invitation. At this time, sign-ups are open for Nvidia accounts that were created on or before November 15th, 2022, ” the company said.

It’s unclear how Nvidia will determine which customers receive invites. But the company might be leveraging its GeForce Experience app—which can determine which GPU is installed on a user’s PC—to help it find people willing to pay for the pricey RTX 4080 and 4090 products.

Nvidia added that the invite system will also continue to offer the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition to selected consumers.
